i want to sell my laptop and i have a very personal data i want erase before selling it.. i already formated by right click on the steer and format but when i installed a recovery program it recovers every my files. is there a way to format the steer and erase everything without the possibility to recover them agian. just to make suer no one can look them......

Open Question: Dell XPS 400 won't start?

I'm working on this comp for a pal. Most of the time it will not boot into Windows. Usually it will keep rebooting into the start up menu (safe mode, start Windows normally, etc). I have been able to receive in occasionally in safe mode and in normal mode. When I could I was able to run the system restore and it worked for a few moments but then began acting up again. I'm pretty sure I can receive in and keep the data but I'm at a lose as how to do a system recovery (or even if it's needed). I have no recovery CDs and cannot find a recovery partition. I've also tried using an XP CD to do a recovery but the box only allows a USB keyboard to be connected and it won't recognize the keyboard in the Windows recovery. Any ideas? I'm still not even sure if this hardware or software related.

Open Question: What do you do when Windows Recovery Console will not load?

So far I'm stuck & can't do squat... After the unit starting blue screening and crashed, I went to put the Operating Disk in to re-install Windows XP as instructed. It says 'starting system recovery', and then goes to a black Gateway screen that says 'please wait...' for hours (literally). The laptop will not go past that screen or load the system recovery to re-install Windows. This is now the second laptop that I've seen have that same problem in the past 2 months. So the question is, what do you do when you can't access System Recovery and it won't start any other way either? I'm at the point where I'm pretty sure I've already lost every old data on my laptop and don't care anymore, I just want it to start period now but it won't load to re-install Windows :[

Open Question: HARD DISK PROBLEM????

i just dont know wats wrong with my difficult disk but there sure is some problem...i format every drives reinstalled windows xp but when i run chkdisk on C: it halts.... after a few days it even fails to open one of the local drives then things receive worse and another steer falls down....i lose my data ...i dont know wat to do..the difficult disk is still in warranty though but people say that the guys are just gonna do some changes and they wont give ya a new one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! difficult disk size 80 gb age ..not more than one year i think it got bad after i ran easy recovery

Open Question: Deleting Data from a Relational Database?

I need to perform an assessment on the impact of deleting rows from a relational database. I am not interested in the syntax, but would like to learn more about the risks. We do have a backup/recovery strategy, but I am curious to know if anybody can give me suggestions on what to include in our impact analysis. Our data dictionary allows us to look what tables are referenced to and from our target table. We are reviewing the associations between each table to determine if data integrity is at risk (e.g. if we remove a row from table X, will references to/from table Y be impacted). Does anyone with experience have any GENERAL suggestions on performing this type of assessment?

Open Question: Will you pay $$$ to recover your external hdd files?

mine crashed. the files were music, about 3000 songs (most are christian songs which I really loved), less than a hundred of good movies & Itunes podcasts (which are no longer available for dload on the net) and personal photos. Those were my collection from 2004 to gift. Accdg to the data recovery company, this will cost me about US$300 but most likely a thousand or so... still yet to know though if can successfully recover but if yes, then it costs a lot. I asked my colleagues for advice and not a single person agrees, asked me to just forget about the whole thing cos it's not practical. But I really treasured those files. Is it really impractical to pay that much? Shall I let go? my IT colleague did a quick check, said the spindler stopped running. He said he could try to open up everything but it's a high risk. If it fails, then it's dead forever. He said data recovery company has more "tools" so chances are higher but of course I need to pay a huge sum. the external hdd still has a green light but after few clicking sound, it will cease. the only solution is to take out everything but not a guarantee.

I bought a bigger HD (on sale) so now I want to install it.I have the original recovery discs that came with the computer (Windows Vista Premium).And I just created a complete backup on three discs.So do I just install the new HD,install the original recovery or use my latest discs? Open Question: How do I get my iPhone out of recovery mode?

I recently sold my iPhone on eBay and to receive rid of my data I was going to restore it with custom firmware. However when I put the phone in restore mode I got unknown mistake code 6 in iTunes when I tried to update the firmware. I downloaded iBrickr to try and boot it out of recovery mode but it doesn't recognize the iPhone as being connected. I can't put it into DFU mode either. Somebody please help, the auction ended two days ago and I REALLY need to boat this thing out..

Voting Question: Is there a computer brand that has actual american based support?

I have an eMachines and have only spoken to American techs. But eMachines doesn't make a desktop to meet my needs. As far as I know, Gateway has American support, and I know they make eMachines. Acer too, I think? I have an HP that I bought a month ago and I fell in adore with it. Until I had a problem with data transfer via my network. I called HP support, and that is when happiness turned to frustration. It wasn't as bad as Dell,( sorry Dell and loyal Dell users), but it was bad enough! I let them receive control through remote assistance and instead of solving the problem properly, they got frustrated and completely erased my (D:) recovery. I know it's not the end of the wold but, I just bought it. Circuit City is letting me exchange it. So any American support? Thanks everyone! I can't have someone build one for me. I can only receive store credit/exchange. The one I have to take back has a 500 gig HDD, 3 gigs of RAM. It's a 32 bit .

Open Question: Pen drive - Virus infection - Not able to access "This drive is not formatted, Do you want to format ..?

My Transcend 4GB pendrive was connected to a virus infected system and after that I am not able to open it. When ever I try to open, it gives a message that "the steer is not formated and want to format now". I have tried to access in DOS and explorer, nothing works. Even though I have 3GB data in it, it shows 0KB data with RAW format. While accessing in DOS, it finds that the file system is in unrecognized format. Is there a solution removing this virus and getting my data back or atleast getting the databack as the data is very very important. I have done a research in google and many people has faced this problem, but no solution is found. Is there any recovery software by which I can recover the data atleast. Thankz a lot in advance.

Open Question: I dreamed of having 4 types of Leukemia at once.?

Hey every It has been a while since I have been having dreams , or perhaps more correctly remembering the dreams that I have. A year ago I never used to remember anything. yet a year ago I wasn't below the same pressure that I'm dealing with now, on the account that I'm in grad school of engineering and joined a lab and working very difficult to receive some experiments and always have meaningful data on weekly basis. So most of my dreams I remember usually and at least once a week I look a nightmare , not the nice of nightmare involving dead people, or accidents or blood and flesh, but mostly realistic stuff to people that i know and adore very much as in something bad happening to them.....And lately myself. If i look a bad dream and i don't remember it I would still be unhappy during the day not knowing why, but many times I'm so unhappy that i remember pictures of a dream and i remember having it. Last night i lived -literally lived- an experience that I might not live in the awake state of consciousness. You know how they say that if you never had cancer you can't know how it feels like?....... well I had four types of Leukemia , specifically Leukemia , at once. In my dream i was getting tests and my parents were with me and i was unhappy but never cried and I was thinking in my dream (not realizing its a dream, cuz sometimes I do) I was thinking , this is horrible, I'm deeply irreparably damaged and I appreciate how a pal of mine (in real life) who had cancer felt. Doctors were telling me that my blood is very thick with cells that my kidneys are damaged, and though there is a slight chance of recovery there is a long queue for medication and hence i wont make it. The experience of me waiting and seeing myself collapse was very true I lived the feeling , then something else happened, I actually chose not to receive treated. I told them, give me something for the pain and make it easy. I remember my parents but i can't look their faces. I woke up and my day is so very much stained with the memory of this experience. Now that I think of it, I'm fascinated how my brain totally was tricked and i lived the experience realistically and if I never have cancer this shall be a very close encounter with cancer. The night before I remember my mom having a slug like cyst or something on her neck which turned out to be a malignant tumor. I started crying and I eventually woke up to find myself really crying. A while before that, i remember that someone, perhaps one of my parents asked me to run an errand. I remember it was a difficult task that they gave me and i was looking for out not being able to do it. Then my mom asked me graciously with a loving smiling face: Do you want to die? and I say: Yesssssss yesssssss, please let me die, life is no place for me, its too dtressful and I'm very unhappy.....please I want to die..(this was my answer work for word). I was so wanting to die I woke up and thought , wow do i really want to? because i was very glad in my dream that someone offered it to me.. So let me know your input guys... I'll take anything you say , don't be scared to say some injuring facts....cuz no matter what you say its gonna hurt less....if any

Voting Question: How to recover NTFS Files from HFS+ formatted external disk?

Hi, I have an external difficult disk which had NTFS format, by mistake was cleared to HFS+ format, and now Windows can't read it. I don't want to reformat it through Mac again, as this would risk the data already there. So I am trying recovery tools on Mac that would recover NTFS files. So far I only found R-Studio for Mac, which seems pretty good, but most files I try to recover gives me mistake from what I tried in the demo version, and it hangs a lot. I don't mind paying for the software, but is this limitation related to being demo only? Is the tool good and will do the best possible? Any other tools? Any other suggestions? Thanks

Voting Question: What is the best data recovery software out there, anyone?

I just found out how much a data recovery software can keep my life, or what is left of it. There are so many of them, so, please help me pick. I've tried a free one mentioned by one of the reader here, but it is extremely slow, and I mean slowwwww. It took the whole day just to scan 50% of my difficult steer, and the whole day just to undelete 20% of the 50% scanned files. But the problem is that I can not pick what type of files to recover. If you know or have used one, please let me know your opinion. Thanks every !

First of every I would just like to say that I am ok with computers, not a beginner but in no way an expert! I want to perform destructive recovery on my pc. I have the disk and have done it before so its not a problem. So what I want to know is if I now do a destructive recovery when the pc is finished and ready will I be able to plug in the HD Player and put the backup files straight back on my computer, or will I need to follow the over steps again to receive it to arrive up in "My Computer"? Therefore losing my data be re-formatting the difficult steer?

Open Question: My computer stops when booting, got black screen :(?

Well my computer just stops on the black screen......It's not even close to the windows loading screen yet it just stops on a black screen.... I've tried going on safe mode but it doesn't even let me, it just stops on the "system32\config\system" and I've also tried system recovery, didnt work, havent tried he "destructive" cuz there's ALOT of data on my computer...>_> It justs stops on a BLACK SCREEN for some reason and theres no usb or anything plugged to the computer that would cause that....DEMONIC SCREEN...... And if its any important, when i touch the power off button it just instantly turns off on the black screen, when its on the hp screen, it takes like 3 seconds to turn off, dont know if that happens to other computers... Currently typing on an another computer (friends) but please answer with good news... Would appreciated it :) Edit: I've opened the desktop to look if anythings wrong, removed the ram and then put it back, cleaned the fan of dust ( which was ALOT) and check if there's any loose wires.....which it didn't have any >_>......... Started it up and it's the same thing..... I dont have any windows cd and i dont know where i could download it, i have a dvd so no cd, could i still burn the software and would it still work even though its not a cd? oh and the computer is windows of hp, dont know the video card but i guess it's intel 8125 something and what i did earlier on the computer was playing the dreamcast on the computer with my bro, MvsC 2...... I won and then closed the dreamcast and just left the computer on and then i went to snooze around 5, woke at 11 and the computer was off, so i turn it on and thats how it started....

Resolved Question: Will I lose data from my data drive (D:) if I recover the OS (Vista Home Premium) which is on C:?

Vista SP1 showed up on the Windows automatic update to automatically install. It failed, and went to startup repair which also failed. I force-shutdown the computer and then rebooted, which allowed me to boot into Windows again. The same thing happened again, 3 or 4 times and now my laptop (Dell Inspiron 1525) won't boot into Windows. I don't mind reinstalling the OS again. But I have just one question. I store every my data on another steer (D:). If I try to repair my system using the Windows Installation CD (that came with the laptop), am I going to lose every the data on D:? There's an option called 'Restore PC to Factory Condition'. Will using this option erase the data on D: steer, since there was nothing in D: steer when I received the laptop? There is a recovery partition (E:) that I think will be used to restore the OS. I don't mind doing anything to my computer as long as every my data on D: is safe and untouched. There's a lot of data there, and I can't back it up with my computer refusing to boot into Windows.

Voting Question: Help with my PC please.?

When i'm in my console recovery, trying to format my PC so i can install XP, type "chkdsk" and it says "the volume has one or more unrecoverable erros" Can this be fixed? I'm trying to format my HD and install windows XP. When i go to install, it says i have a cease mistake(00000050). When i try to delete the partition and create a new one, and install again, it says it cannot delete it because it has data needed to finish installing. When i try to Format through the recover console, it says i cannot format removable media. I have everything unplugged except the mouse and keyboard. I had the system32 mistake a few days ago, so i tried to fix i, then just say forget it and tried to just re-install windows and every this started.

Hi to everybody I have a computer I am fixing for my pal and it has windows xp home sp2 with 3 users, and i had to format it for him because it had problems, i installed another user with my name and deleted every the users keeping the files, as i was deleting the last one an mistake message showed up with "cannot delete images as it is a windows folder", something like that and i found that the images folder was missing in the deleted user's folder on the desktop and in it's original location, i did a system restore and got every the users back, but then i did something really stupid, i booted with a ubuntu live cd to copy the data on my 500 gb external disk without risk of getting infected by viruses, and i started deleting a few system files on the c:\ directory so that it was easyer to sort out what i needed (i didn't delete the folders, just a few files on the root directory, don't remember which, and when i went to the user folder i didn't find the documents folder, even though i had just seen them on windows and they were there (documents and settings\the user\documents) so i tried to boot from windows again but i got the ntldr missing mistake, i tried to fix mbr, boot record and every the other tips i found online but i can't boot it, i tried to do a recovery installation after fixing the mbr(setup couldn't find the broken Windows xp) but it stops at 35 minutes installing drivers, i tried to look the setupapi log and it stopped on input.inf yesterday and on volume.inf today(a dozen of lines ahead), even putting diskinternals when i installed windows on the other empty partition but there were a whole bunch of lost files but no documents folder in every the user folders (desktop though was gift) and now i don't know what else to do(i tried a bartPE cd but bios said it couldn't boot) by the way i unplugged every devices exept USB mouse and keyboard (don't have PS/2 ports) and i tried disactivating every options in the bios and it didn't work so i restored system defaults my hardware configuration is DELL dimension E520 Intel core 2 duo windows xp home edition (vista capable) floppy steer dvd rewrite 1gb ram 160 hdd I need urgent help please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thanks for everybody p.s. I'm italian so excuse me for my english i passed the ntldr problem, now i'm stuck in the recovery installation!!!!!!

Voting Question: Why would an external hard drive stop working without any apparent reason?

I have a 500GB external difficult steer which has just stopped working and most probably I have lost every my data. It never fell nor was dropped. I was simply accessing a pictures folder with ACDSee when it just stopped working. Bought it about a year ago. It says "Rock Mobile Disk" on it's container, while the actual difficult steer is manufactured by Western Digital. I have tried many data recovery software programs none have been able to even start to recover. I have been getting I/O mistake in sector 0. If it's mechanical problem is there anyway I could fix it? I have mounted the steer directly onto my PC. Had the same problem.

Resolved Question: HI! Can anybody recommend a cheap data recovery specialist?

I have an old Ibook and for some reason I can't open my personal folder. Maybe because I put a file vault on it which makes it more difficult to retrieve.It's not accepting my old password and it doesn't allow me to assign a new password. Most data recovery specialists I called was asking me between $600-$2000. It's just a personal computer. I was hoping I could find something like $100-$150. Thanks in advance.

well when you do system recovery, it only starts out with hp-owner and then we have to remake the old accounts from before the system recovery, I figured I should just delete the old data. It's in documents and settings and it has a list of every the old accounts they're called like Sam.YOUR-AE066C3A9B I went through them and realized it's like the stuff we had on the previous documents. I went to go delete one, but it said it contains program files and are you sure you want to delete this and it's every too big for the recycle bin, so it would have to be permanently deleted. Or is there any way I can like reactivate the old accounts after system recovery? Or should I just put every the music files and stuff onto a cd and than sweep the whole computer and than upload them back on?? Help me!!! please if u have any idea as what to do, even if it doesn't answer the question every the way please let me know anyway.

Resolved Question: Is it possible to recover files after a Sony VAIO System Recovery?

I accidentally performed a System Recovery using the VAIO Recovery Wizard. This was a result of misinformation provided by a Sony LiveChat technician regarding a problem that I was having. As a result, I lost every my documents, pictures, itunes, etc. Now my laptop and hardrive are restored to their original factory installed conditions. Sony did suggest a company that could help me recover my files. However, when I called the company they quoted me $500-$2500. In addition, my CD-Rom steer was not working before the System Recovery was performed. This is why I do not have backup disks of my files. I have not tried to use my CD-Rom steer after the System Recovery was performed because I was told not to use my computer any further. I wanted to know if it is possible to recover data from a hardrive that has been deleted. I believe there is a software program called recover my files??? Has anyone used it and did it work? Thank you.

I made a stupid big mistake and didn't make a back up and while installing vista, i installed it over the partition of my difficult steer which had windows xp installed on it, making every my data disappear.
